These were built by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat, who wanted to convert the natural Alanya sea port into a naval base, on the shore. Kizilkule is connected to the main citadel by city walls roads, and was erected to provide for the safety of the seaport.
This is a structure having 5 floors, with the upper sections made of brick material and the lower sections being made of cut stones. Red Tower has octagonal plan. In the middle there is a cistern where the rain water is collected.
In 1950s it was restored. Today, in its lower floor ethnographical monuments are exhibited. Shipyard is a structure leaning against the rocks and also it has covered gallery with 5 extended archways aligned side by side.
All entires of these galleries are open to the sea.
One of the galleries which are arched to one another can be reached through the gates. Located on the both sides of the structure are additional rooms serving as the office and depot. For the purpose of ship building it was designed. Today it can still be used for the maintenance and repair of the small boats.
By a second defence oriented tower called Tophane which is located opposite to the red tower shipyard is guarded.
